Best Time to Visit Vietnam
Vietnam has three climate zones running on different monsoon calendars. The right month depends entirely on which region you are traveling through, whether in the north, central, or south.
November – April
North and South Season
November through April is the prime window for Ha Long Bay and northern Vietnam: skies are clear and temperatures in Hanoi sit between 17 and 25°C. Simultaneously, the south is dry — Can Tho, the Mekong Delta, and Ho Chi Minh City are all at their best from December to April. This is the window that suits the full north-to-south Vietnam route most cleanly.

March – May
Central Highlands and Dalat
Dalat and the Central Highlands are best from March through May before the summer rains arrive. Flower farms are in full bloom, the pine forest roads above the city are clear, and temperatures stay between 18 and 22°C year-round, offering the most stable climate of any city in Vietnam. Da Nang and the central coast are warm and largely dry through April before the southwest monsoon builds.

May – August
Da Nang and the Central Coast
May through August is the dry season for Da Nang and central Vietnam. The South China Sea beaches north and south of the city are calm, the Marble Mountains are clear in the morning light, and Hoi An is at its most navigable before the October rains. The north and Mekong Delta are in monsoon during these months, making the central coast the focused window for beach and coastal travel.

June – November
Mekong Delta Green Season
The Mekong Delta turns a vivid emerald green during the wet season from June through November. Short daily rain bursts rarely disrupt boat travel, and the floating markets at Can Tho are most active and atmospheric when the river runs full. Photography of the Delta's waterway landscape is at its most dramatic in the wet months, with flat light, green rice fields, and river mist at first light over Cai Rang.
