Itinerary
Upon your arrival at Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, you will pass through Immigration and customs. When you exit the building, you will look for a representative holding a sign with your name, who will take you to your Spanish-speaking driver for a private land transfer to your hotel in Bagaces. The drive takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours through scenic countryside landscapes. Rio Perdido is located in the Northern Province of Guanacaste, situated in San Bernardo, close to the small town of Fortuna, Bagaces. The area offers possibilities for dry forest observation, as well as wildlife species associated with this type of forest. After checking into your hotel, the remainder of the day is at your leisure to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. No guided activities are scheduled for this day. Overnight stay at Rio Perdido Lodge & Spa.
After breakfast, you will meet your adventure guide at Rio Perdido Lodge and ride a 4x4 vehicle to the place where you start your activity. Your guide will give the participants a safety talk regarding the tubing experience, as well as provide a helmet and life jacket. At Rio Perdido, they use modern equipment to safely take you through the river. There are parts of the canyon where the rock walls narrow and daylight is scarce, and if you remain quiet for a bit, you will find that you are not alone, as varied species of birds and mammals could be spotted occasionally. You will also look for hot water spouts along the eastern rock walls. Please note that this activity is not suitable for everyone; while a slow float will take you through most of the route, there are several rapids along the way, and there is always a chance of contacting some of the exposed rocks. The minimum age to participate in white water tubing is 12 years. This shared tour lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and includes an adventure bilingual guide, all necessary gear, and 4x4 transportation. After the tour, you will return to your hotel, and the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Overnight stay at Rio Perdido Lodge & Spa.
Today is entirely yours to enjoy at leisure in the beautiful Rio Perdido area, with no organized activities scheduled to allow you complete flexibility. You can rest and relax at the hotel, explore the hiking trails and suspension bridges on your own, or enjoy the natural thermal mineral pools and hot springs. The lodge is located between two deep canyons, offering unique opportunities for nature observation and relaxation in the geothermal waters. Overnight stay at Rio Perdido Lodge & Spa.
After breakfast, you will meet your driver at the lobby of the hotel for a private land transfer to the Pacific North, approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Along the way, you will stop to stretch your legs, use restroom facilities, and have the opportunity to purchase food, which is not included. The road often offers chances to observe wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, exotic birds, and coatimundis, and your driver will stop for these sightings whenever possible. Upon arrival at the JW Marriott, you will check into your hotel before heading out for a shared mangrove kayaking tour. You will row through the calm waters of the estuary found between Tamarindo Beach and Playa Grande, where you may observe bird species, crocodiles, iguanas, and other estuary wildlife. Your naturalist guide will point out hidden treasures and provide details about the mangrove inhabitants. No experience is needed, and you don't need to know how to swim. The tour departs according to the tide and lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Included in this tour are a professional guide, equipment, water, a smoothie or beer, national park fees, and transportation. After the tour, the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Overnight stay at JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa.
Today is entirely yours to enjoy at leisure in the beautiful Papagayo Gulf area, with no organized activities scheduled to allow you complete flexibility. You can rest and relax by the pool or beach, or explore the local area. Overnight stay at JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa.
Another full day at leisure in the beautiful Papagayo Gulf area allows you to continue exploring or relaxing at your own pace on the stunning Pacific coast. You can spend your day swimming in the crystal-clear waters, sunbathing on the golden sand, or simply unwinding by the pool. The luxurious resort setting, delicious cuisine, and stunning sunsets make Papagayo Gulf a truly special place to end your Costa Rican adventure. Overnight stay at JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa.
After enjoying your final breakfast in Costa Rica, you will meet your driver at the lobby of your hotel for a private land transfer to Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, which takes approximately 1.5 hours. Upon arrival at the airport, you will complete your check-in process for your onward journey, carrying with you wonderful memories of your Costa Rican adventure.
